Sir Walter Scott

At the northwest corner of Spring Garden Road and South Park Street, is the main entrance to Halifax's most peaceful of places, the Public Gardens.  Standing in front of the entrance's large gate is a bust of that other Scottish icon of literature, Sir Walter Scott.  Thanks to Dr. Paul Barnaby at the Walter Scott Digital Archive at Edinburgh University for linking to this page (I promise to provide a better photo soon!).

A bronze replica of the famous Chantrey bust of Sir Walter Scott stands outside the main entrance gates.  It has a pedestal of black granite mounted on white granite.  As a commemoration of the centenary of the death of Scott, it was presented to the city by The North British Society of Halifax.  It was unveiled by the Honourable J.A. Chisholm, Chief Justice of NS, on September 21, 1932.
