St. George's Church
National Historic Site
Brunswick Street, North End
The cornerstone for St. George's, also known as the 'Round Church', on Brunswick Street, was laid in 1799 and was completed in 1811. St. George's is North America's first round church. A weathervane was added in 1835 to mark the visit of Halley's Comet.
A recent fire, in June 1994, damaged the church and its dome, but funds were raised and the restoring work has been done; St. George's is as good as new. It stands on Brunswick Street, south of the Little Dutch Church.
