Fort Needham

Fort Needham, no longer fortified, is a high hill in the Richmond district of Halifax's north end.  It is to the east, or harbour side, of Novalea Drive as you head north, along the Hydrostone area.  Fort Needham Park is a large, open area with a baseball field.  To the northern end, is the Halifax Explosion Memorial Bell Tower.  To the south, shown below, is a monument commemorating the Relief Commission's efforts in helping to raise funds to rebuild the wrecked area of Halifax following the Explosion.  The Government of Canada provided C$18 million, the British Government nearly C$5 million, with about C$4 million coming from other sources.  Haligonians remembered well the tangible aid provided by the people of Massachusetts, and say "Thank You" each year by providing the City of Boston with its Christmas tree.
