Naval Dockyard Clock

Halifax Waterfront

The Naval Dockyard Clock is located at the foot of George Street as it runs down from the Old Town Clock on Citadel Hill.  You'll find it in between the Halifax ferry terminal and the Cable Wharf.  The clock was fashioned in London, England, in 1767 by Ayneth Thwaites.  It served as the clock at the Halifax Naval Dockyard from 1772 to 1993.  The clock is the last remaining architectural feature of the original Halifax Naval Dockyard, and one of the oldest turret clocks in Canada.

In 1996, the Canadian Navy presented clock to the Halifax Regional Municipality.  The clock found its new home at the site where Halifax's first European settlers first landed in 1749.

To the left in the picture above is Ferry Boat Lane, a collection of shops and restaurants on the way to the ferry terminal.  The building on the right was an old fish market, but has been converted to a store making and selling handcrafted crystal.
