Celtic Cross

Downtown Halifax

 

Near the bottom of George Street, almost as it intersects with Lower Water Street, is located a Celtic Cross.  The inscription on the monument, in both English and Gaelic, is found below:

Celtic Cross

Dedicated to the original Irish settlers of 1749 and to the contributions of the Irish community to Halifax, to Nova Scotia, and to Canada.

Tíolactha de na hÉireannaigh a bhain fúthu i Halifax sa bhliain 1749 is mar aitheantas dá ndearna siadsan, sliocht a sleachta is a gcomh-Éireannaigh ó shin ar son Halifax, na hAlban Nua, is Cheanada.
